The Food Group
By shopping locally you’re not only buying better quality goods, but you’re also supporting local families and farmers over multi-millionaire companies. Our goal with this group is to shift the food industry from primarily imported products to being more locally based while keeping locally based food affordable. We will also be working on aiding and growing local community gardens.
The Habitat group’s goal is to ensure that our ecosystems and wildlife are protected from past and future development and densification. It is dedicated to solving the problems that revolve around preservation and conservation; to research and advocate for the habitat. The team will educate the general public and look into matters of invasive species. We also plan to team up with other non-profits who share the same goals as we do; so that we are not re-doing work that has already been done.
Proper Waste Management
Our current waste management skills are past their expiry date and are in need of a positive refreshment. We want to work with our local council to incorporate a proper waste management system into our city, in hopes that surrounding cities do the same. Working towards more compost bins, and having a proper recycling system, which will begin to help people see the importance of properly disposing of your waste and other materials. Without working towards more sustainable practices, garbage will continue to find their way to our drinking water, and the water that waters our food. We have to start being proactive and take matters into our own hands if we want to see a difference.
The Industry Plan
In order to make a major change, we will be teaming up with different industries to work towards more eco-friendly ways to produce and package products, as well as create and build homes and buildings. Our goal is to get local businesses to team up with one another and invest in more renewable and sustainable products. We will research and test products that are less harmful to our environment and then present them to local coffee shops, stores, and construction companies. Allowing them the opportunity to switch to more sustainable practices.
In today’s world, we have numerous alternative energy products that allow us to have the opportunity to invest in more sustainable energy. Our goal is to promote new systems that will produce no greenhouse gas emissions. In doing this, we will help reduce the various types of air pollution as it will stop us from being so reliant on imported fossil fuels.
Through the Education group, we plan to introduce a program into our school system which combines Indigenous Knowledge with modern science. Learning from Traditional Indigenous knowledge keepers is important as it bestows a sense of responsibility for taking care of and protecting our natural environment. We will teach our young people how to live more sustainable lifestyles through examples of recycling, composting, gardening and more. We will use hands-on activities to get them more excited about environmental preservation. Our goal is to engage and motivate the youth of today to want to make a difference.
